Who is Dodow for?

For anyone who struggles to fall asleep, wakes up during the night, or feels overwhelmed by their thoughts at bedtime - including teenagers, who often experience a more intense nervous or emotional rhythm.
Dodow is suitable for a wide variety of people:

- People prone to stress, anxiety, or mental restlessness before sleep,
- Those who suffer from chronic insomnia or recurring nighttime awakenings,
- People who wake up too early in the morning and cannot get back to sleep,
- Those who live in noisy environments or suffer from noise pollution,
- People with tinnitus, for whom the light beam helps divert attention from the internal noise,
- Pregnant women or people experiencing hormonal imbalance,
- People withdrawing from sleeping pills or seeking a natural alternative to chemical treatments,
- Those affected by fibromyalgia, mild depression, or nervous exhaustion,
- Night-shift workers and people with irregular schedules, whose biological clock disrupts melatonin secretion,
- And finally, those who spend long hours in front of screens, whose light naturally delays falling asleep.

Dodow is also suitable for teenagers: it teaches them early on to use the powerful tool of breathing, and helps them realize that they can quickly regain their calm on their own, simply by following the light.

How does it work?

A luminous metronome to soothe the body and mind.
Touch the surface once for an 8-minute session, twice for 20 minutes.
Focus on the blue light projected onto the ceiling: inhale as it expands, exhale as it contracts.
Dodow gradually guides your breathing.
The first few minutes reproduce the day's natural breathing rhythm - fast, at around 11 cycles per minute - that of a mind still active, filled with tension and thoughts.
Then, as the exercise progresses, the light pulse gradually slows until it reaches the ideal rhythm of 6 breaths per minute in about 2 minutes:
an inhalation of about 4 seconds, followed by an exhalation of about 6 seconds.

This rhythm is scientifically recognized for stimulating the baroreflex, a nervous reflex that rebalances heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure.
This physiological shift moves the body from a state of wakefulness to one of deep rest, lowering heart rate and cortisol levels.
You then maintain this calm rhythm until the end of the session, when Dodow switches off automatically.
Thanks to its touch-sensitive surface, simply pass your hand over it to start it, without needing to turn on a lamp - perfect in the middle of the night.
The device offers three light-intensity levels, from the softest to the strongest, to suit all environments and avoid disturbing your partner.
No screen, no waves, no dependency. Just a light-and-breathing ritual to relearn how to fall asleep naturally.

Proven benefits

Falling asleep up to 2.5 times faster, according to our users.
Thousands of testimonials confirm that after a few nights, the body falls asleep more easily, the mind unwinds faster, and nighttime awakenings decrease.
On average, our users gain more than 100 hours of sleep per year.
These results are not due to chance: more than 13,000 scientific studies have documented the effects of cardiac coherence and respiratory control on stress, sleep, and nervous system regulation.

Slow breathing, at 6 cycles per minute, acts directly on the baroreflex, a measurable physiological mechanism that synchronizes breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure.

It improves heart rate variability (HRV) - a recognized indicator of healthy autonomic nervous system function.

A science-inspired innovation

Dodow is based on a principle validated by thousands of scientific studies: cardiac coherence.
A simple method, but one proven effective for regulating the nervous system, reducing stress, and promoting sleep.
More than 13,000 international publications indexed on PubMed address cardiac coherence and heart rate variability (Heart Rate Variability - HRV), including research from the HeartMath Institute (California), the CNRS, INSERM, and the American Heart Association.
This research confirms that slowing breathing to approximately 6 cycles per minute stimulates a fundamental physiological reflex: the baroreflex, which synchronizes heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure.
This resonance between the heart, lungs, and brain helps rebalance the autonomic nervous system - reducing the dominance of the sympathetic system (the stress system) and activating the parasympathetic system (the rest system).

Within a few minutes, the body shifts from a state of alertness to one of deep relaxation.
This mechanism is now used in demanding environments:

- by French Air Force fighter pilots,
- by NASA astronauts to regulate their stress in microgravity,
- by sleep physicians and university hospitals in France and abroad,
- by elite athletes to improve recovery and concentration.

Dodow brings this science into the home. It is not a gadget: it is a device based on solid neurophysiological foundations, making accessible to the general public what researchers, doctors, and coaches have been using for decades to stabilize the body and soothe the mind.

Supported by doctors

“As a healthcare professional, you can recommend Dodow to your patients.”
— Dr. David O’Hare, physician specializing in cardiac coherence.

“I have observed that the Dodow device is very useful for some of the people I work with. The idea of closing their eyes can sometimes cause anxiety, and focusing their gaze on the beam can help channel the mind. The device’s light has a hypnotic quality and, combined with the effects of lengthening the exhalation, brings about a state of relaxation that is conducive to falling asleep. This relaxation is physical, emotional, and mental. Dodow is a less expensive and less impactful solution than sleeping pills.”

— Mireille Barreau, sophrologist and stress management consultant.

    FAQs

    Why do I need Dodow?

Unless you are as highly trained as air force fighter pilots, this cardiac coherence exercise is very difficult to do without a breathing guide! Let’s give credit where credit is due: Sophrology breathing exercises are themselves inspired by Yoga Pranayama. Here are the 4 reasons why Dodow is not just a simple Sophrology breathing exercise:
    1. Dodow indicates an optimal rhythm: 6 breaths per minute to put you into a state of rest and rebalance your autonomic nervous system, with the exhalation 50% longer than the inhalation to make you tired. Trying to follow this on your own forces you to think and count, which causes performance anxiety that significantly delays falling asleep.

    2. The attention span of someone who is not used to meditating is only a few dozen seconds at most, which means that you quickly get lost in your thoughts and forget to do the breathing exercise. With Dodow, the light signal reminds you at every moment that there is something to do!

    3. Synchronizing your breathing with a light that pulses at a slow, steady rhythm has a hypnotic effect (similar to watching a pendulum), which helps you quickly let go.

    4. Dodow helps you get out of your head and slow your stream of thoughts by occupying a large part of your attention with an external point of focus (the light signal), without requiring you to make the effort to concentrate on your breathing - the effort tends to keep you awake rather than help you fall asleep.

We have no doubt about the effectiveness of a Sophrology breathing exercise, but we are less confident in our users’ ability to do it on their own ;).

    Will Dodow disturb my partner?

No. Dodow makes no noise, and the light halo projected onto the ceiling is far too faint to disturb your partner if their eyes are closed.

    Why blue light?

The color blue was chosen after extensive testing, based on the commonly held belief that blue is soothing. High doses of blue light can contribute to keeping you awake by inhibiting melatonin secretion, but this is not the case with Dodow. Projected onto the ceiling, the light signal, at maximum intensity and for someone lying in bed, is very low in intensity (less than 1 lux), especially compared with the relatively strong intensity of a computer or television screen (approximately 60 lux at a distance of 50 cm). In addition, the exposure time (between 8 and 20 minutes) is short. Dodow's impact on the circadian rhythm is therefore virtually zero, or at least far too weak to delay falling asleep and counteract the positive effects described above. The halo of light is therefore actually more like color than light.

Does Dodow also help with jet lag?

Dodow works very well for jet lag or irregular sleep patterns. Dodow is also used by Air France cabin crew, with whom we have formed a partnership. There are 50,000 cabin crew members traveling around the world.

I'm mostly stressed, can Dodow help me?

Yes, by breathing long enough at Dodow’s pace (6 breaths per minute), you will stimulate the baroreflex, a small physiological mechanism that helps restore balance to the autonomic nervous system. This will allow you to quickly move from a state of alertness (activation of the sympathetic nervous system) to a state of rest (activation of the parasympathetic nervous system), the same state you are in during digestion: slightly drowsy. In this state, you will be much less sensitive to stress, your metabolism will slow down, the secretion of neurotransmitters that had been keeping you awake will stop, and sleep will be very close. In addition, by focusing on the halo projected onto the ceiling by Dodow, you will divert your attention from your thoughts. Some people try to “force” themselves to sleep: by trying to fall asleep at all costs, they create stress that prevents them from doing so. By keeping your eyes open to follow the light pulse, you are no longer trying to fall asleep and, paradoxically, you increase your chances of drifting off. In psychology, this is called paradoxical intention; scientific studies have shown its usefulness in treating difficulty falling asleep.

Can Dodow help me fall back asleep if I wake up in the middle of the night?

Yes, by breathing long enough at Dodow’s pace (6 breaths per minute), you will stimulate the baroreflex, a small physiological mechanism that helps restore balance to the autonomic nervous system. This will allow you to quickly move from a state of alertness (activation of the sympathetic nervous system) to a state of rest (activation of the parasympathetic nervous system), the same state you are in during digestion: slightly drowsy. Is Dodow suitable for children and older adults?

Yes, we have numerous testimonials on this subject (we encourage you to read through them). The breathing exercise offered by Dodow is very simple and is performed gradually and gently. Dodow is particularly well suited to people who are afraid of the dark (many of whom are children and older people). Dodow can be used from the age of 6.

How long would Dodow help me fall asleep?

Results may vary from person to person, but most people fall asleep easily within the first 20 minutes, and many even fall asleep before the 8-minute cycle ends. Our users tell us they fall asleep 2.5 times faster on average thanks to Dodow. And remember, the more you use Dodow, the better results you can expect - you may even no longer need it.

What if Dodow doesn't work for me?

You have 100 days to try Dodow. If you’re not satisfied, we’ll refund you. Offer valid only for products purchased on the Livlab.care website.

Does Dodow turn off by itself?

Yes, of course. Dodow turns off automatically at the end of the exercise, after 8 or 20 minutes depending on your choice.
