Sometimes music soothes us, and we wouldn't know why.
Since time immemorial, sound (and certain frequencies) have been tools to soothe restless minds and find inner balance.
The ancient Egyptians emphasized "vowels" in their chants because they attributed therapeutic virtues to them. Tibetan monks use bowls to emit vibrations that are said to be "the manifestation of the Universe."
Although no study currently demonstrates these effects, millions of people fall asleep listening to these frequencies.
HoomBand therefore did not hesitate to add them, in different ways, to its hypnotic sounds and stories.
Because there are as many sleeper profiles as sleepers, the app the Livlab application (available on iPhone and Android) aims to be as comprehensive as possible, to provide a customizable solution based on each person's mood or sensitivity.
In this article, we try to understand how sacred frequencies work and how we chose to include them in our content.
Summary:
- 1- What exactly is a sacred frequency?
- 2- Their effectiveness on the quality of your sleep
- 3- Sacred frequencies, sprinkled in our stories and sounds
1- What exactly is a sacred frequency?
As the famous engineer and inventor Nikola Tesla said: “If you want to find the secrets of the Universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration”.
Every human being emits a vibration depending on their state and mood (see our article on binaural frequencies).
The “sacred frequencies” would have the ability to “harmonize” our frequencies and vibrations to soothe bodies and minds, because they would be aligned with the Earth's original frequencies.
This is therefore music therapy, having a deeper effect than simply listening to music for pleasure.
In the 11th century, Guy d’Arezzo, a Benedictine monk, formalized a method of learning music based on 6 notes (or frequencies): ut re mi fa sol la. These are the first syllables of each half line of a Latin religious chant: the Hymn to Saint John the Baptist.
It is known that some ancient Gregorian chants were built from this structure, supposed to give spiritual blessings during the religious mass.
This sacred solfeggio, later forgotten until the 1960s, was revived by physicist Josephe Puleo who reconstructed the lost scale based on the study of Pythagorean numbers and the Bible.
He then highlights 9 scales, now called “sacred frequencies.”
These 9 frequencies would all be associated with an “effect” on the human body and mind:
- 174 Hertz : would provide a feeling of security and reduce physical pain
- 285 Hertz : would energize the organs and allow tissues to regenerate
- 396 Hertz (ut) : would release guilt and fear
- 417 Hertz (ré): would facilitate change
- 528 Hertz (mi) : would repair DNA (also called the “miracle frequency”)
- 639 Hertz (fa) : would harmonize relationships and improve communication
- 741 Hertz (sol) : would put the mind in a position to find a solution and lead a healthier life
- 852 Hertz (la): would awaken intuition
- 963 Hertz (si) : would allow deep unification and connection to the “universal energy”
Obviously, we use the conditional because none of this has been scientifically proven.
2- Their effectiveness on the quality of your sleep
There are almost no studies on sacred frequencies, but their reputation was made empirically: listeners feel that these frequencies soothe them and... that's all.
Listening to these frequencies would therefore soothe the mind and help to fall asleep faster.
According to research by Dr. Alan Watkins, a neuroscience researcher at Imperial College London, Gregorian chant singers have, during their performance, lower blood pressure and blood tension than normal.
Scientists have also realized that Gregorian monks needed little sleep (2 hours a day for some!).
Here, it is not a question of believing or not believing, but of feeling.
3- Sacred frequencies, sprinkled in our stories and sounds
The Hoom app does not offer soundtracks with only sacred frequencies, which would not be very pleasant to hear.
We prefer to “wrap” them by including them in many hypnotic stories, as background soundtracks or in our guided meditations to amplify their relaxing power.
Let's summarize
Sacred frequencies and your HoomBand are therefore particularly effective:
- if you have trouble entering a state of deep relaxation
- if you are plagued by anxious or stressful thoughts
Here is an example of it containing sacred frequencies available on the Livlab application (available on iPhone and Android) :
