Who is Dodow for?
For all those who struggle to fall asleep, wake up at night, or feel overwhelmed by their thoughts at bedtime — including teenagers, who often experience a more intense nervous or emotional rhythm.
Dodow is aimed at a wide variety of profiles:
- People prone to stress, anxiety, or mental agitation before sleeping,
- Those who suffer from chronic insomnia or recurrent night awakenings,
- People who wake up too early in the morning and cannot fall back asleep,
- Those living in noisy environments or suffering from noise disturbances,
- People with tinnitus, for whom the light beam helps divert attention from internal noise,
- Pregnant women or those experiencing hormonal imbalance,
- People withdrawing from sleeping pills or seeking a natural alternative to chemical treatments,
- Those affected by fibromyalgia, mild depression, or nervous exhaustion,
- Night workers and people with irregular schedules, whose biological clock disrupts melatonin secretion,
- And finally, those who spend long hours in front of screens, whose light naturally delays falling asleep.
Dodow is also suitable for teenagers: it teaches them early on to use this powerful tool that is breathing, and makes them aware that they can quickly regain calm by themselves, simply by following the light.
How does it work?
A luminous metronome to soothe the body and mind.
Touch the touch surface once for an 8-minute session, twice for 20 minutes.
Fix your gaze on the blue light projected on the ceiling: inhale as it expands, exhale as it contracts.
Dodow gradually guides your breathing.
The first minutes reproduce the natural respiratory rhythm of the day — fast, around 11 cycles per minute — that of a still active mind, full of tension and thoughts.
Then, as the exercise progresses, the light pulse gradually slows down, reaching in about 2 minutes the ideal rhythm of 6 breaths per minute:
inhaling for about 4 seconds, exhaling for about 6 seconds.
This rhythm is scientifically recognized to stimulate the baroreflex, a nerve reflex that rebalances heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure.
It is this physiological shift that moves the body from a state of wakefulness to deep rest, lowering heart rate and cortisol levels.
You then maintain this calm rhythm until the end of the session, when Dodow automatically turns off.
Thanks to its touch surface, just pass your hand over it to start it, without needing to turn on a lamp — perfect in the middle of the night.
The device offers three levels of light intensity, from the softest to the strongest, to suit all environments and not disturb your partner.
No screen, no waves, no addiction. Just a luminous and breathing ritual to relearn how to fall asleep naturally.
The proven benefits
Falling asleep up to 2.5 times faster, according to our users.
Thousands of testimonials confirm that after a few nights, the body falls asleep more easily, the mind disengages faster, and nighttime awakenings decrease.
On average, our users gain more than 100 hours of sleep per year.
These results are no accident: more than 13,000 scientific studies have documented the effects of heart coherence and respiratory control on stress, sleep, and nervous regulation.
Slow breathing, at 6 cycles per minute, acts directly on the baroreflex, a measurable physiological mechanism that synchronizes breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure.
It improves heart rate variability (HRV) — a recognized indicator of the proper functioning of the autonomic nervous system.

A French innovation inspired by science
Dodow is based on a principle validated by thousands of scientific studies: cardiac coherence.
A simple method, but one with proven effectiveness to regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and promote falling asleep.
More than 13,000 international publications referenced on PubMed address cardiac coherence and heart rate variability (Heart Rate Variability – HRV), including the work of the HeartMath Institute (California), CNRS, INSERM, and the American Heart Association.
These studies confirm that slowing breathing to about 6 cycles per minute stimulates a fundamental physiological reflex: the baroreflex, which synchronizes heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure.
This resonance phenomenon between heart, lungs, and brain helps rebalance the autonomic nervous system – reducing the dominance of the sympathetic system (the stress one) and activating the parasympathetic (the rest one).
In a few minutes, the body shifts from a state of alertness to a state of deep relaxation.
This mechanism is now used in high-demand contexts:
- by French Air Force fighter pilots,
- by NASA astronauts to regulate their stress in microgravity,
- by sleep doctors and university hospital centers in France and abroad,
- by high-level athletes to improve recovery and concentration.
Dodow brings this science home. It is not a gadget: it is a device based on solid neurophysiological foundations, making accessible to the general public what researchers, doctors, and trainers have used for decades to stabilize the body and calm the mind.
Supported by doctors
"As a healthcare professional, you can recommend Dodow to your patients."
— Dr. David O’Hare, specialist physician in heart coherence.
"I have observed in some profiles that I support that the Dodow device is very useful to them. The idea of closing the eyes is sometimes anxiety-inducing, and focusing the gaze on the beam can channel the mind. The light of the device has a hypnotic aspect and combined with the effects of the lengthening exhalation, it leads to a state of relaxation favorable to falling asleep. This relaxation is physical, emotional, and mental. Dodow is a less costly solution than sleeping pills and also less impactful."

« It's a blue light, but not one of the blue lights that keeps you up. It's just a very calming blue light. And you work your breathing with the light. Also, if somebody else is in the room sleeping, what I love is that this makes no noise. It's kind of training you to sleep.»
I have slipped into and I am unconscious before the cycle is up. The next night, I am awake to see the light turn off, but fall asleep shortly after.
The breathing exercises were pleasant and calming. Still, I often don't have much decompression time before hitting the hay, so it was nice to concentrate on something other than my own mile-a-minute thoughts. Meditative indeed!

Pierre, our co-founder, answers Stéphane Soumier's questions to introduce Dodow on the Hello Startups set, which welcomes "the entrepreneurs who are changing the world and who will help you sleep with Dodow, the tool to regain control of your sleep!"
"Melatonin is stimulated again, the brain is in alpha mode (characterized by low-frequency brain waves) and various thoughts detach. In eight minutes, Livlab promises that the brain will have disengaged, as if caught by sleep."
"Finally, the release or the putting to sleep. The listener, after several phases where they have been solicited with many stimuli, must let go. This time, the goal is to soothe them and lead them towards falling asleep. The story ends, you are supposed to, if not already done, be asleep."
"HoomKid is a tool that I find fabulous because it is the first counter that talks about emotion. And in fact, inside each story, there is a key to personal development or a key to help the child experience an emotion."
"Dodow and Hoom market HOOMBAND, an audio headband designed by insomniacs. It is complemented by hypnotic stories to fall asleep available on the Hoom application."

FAQs
Why do I need Dodow?
Unless you are overtrained like Air Force fighter pilots, this cardiac coherence exercise is very difficult to do without a breathing guide! Let's give credit where credit is due, the breathing exercises of Sophrology themselves are inspired by Yoga Pranayama. Here are the 4 reasons why Dodow is not just a simple Sophrology breathing exercise: 1. Dodow indicates an optimal rhythm: 6 breaths per minute to put you in a resting state and rebalance your autonomic nervous system, with the exhalation 50% longer than the inhalation to tire you out. Trying to follow it alone forces you to think, to count, which causes performance anxiety significantly delaying falling asleep. 2. The attention span of a person not used to meditating is a few tens of seconds at most, which means that very quickly you get lost in your thoughts and forget to do the breathing exercise. With Dodow, the light signal reminds you at every moment that there is something to do! 3. Synchronizing your breathing to a light that pulses at a slow and regular rhythm has a hypnotic effect (the phenomenon is similar to watching a pendulum) that helps you quickly let go. 4. Dodow allows you to get out of your head and slow down your flow of thoughts by occupying a large part of your attention on an external point of concentration (the light signal) without you having to make the effort to concentrate on your breathing - the effort rather contributing to keeping you awake than helping you fall asleep. We have no doubt about the effectiveness of a Sophrology breathing exercise, but we are less confident about our users' ability to do it alone ;).
Will Dodow disturb my partner?
No. Dodow makes no noise and the light halo projected on the ceiling is far too weak to disturb your partner if their eyes are closed.
Why blue light?
The blue color was chosen after many tests, based on the generally accepted perception that blue is calming. High doses of blue light can help wake you up by inhibiting melatonin secretion, but this is not the case with Dodow. Being projected onto the ceiling, the light signal, at its maximum intensity and for someone lying in bed, has a very low intensity (less than 1 lux) compared to the relatively strong intensity of a computer or television screen (about 60 lux at a distance of 50cm). Moreover, the exposure time (between 8 and 20 minutes) is short. The impact of Dodow on the circadian rhythm is therefore almost nil or at least far too weak to delay falling asleep and counterbalance the positive effects described above. The light halo is therefore actually more akin to color than to light.
Does Dodow also work for jet lag?
Dodow works very well for jet lag or irregular sleep phases. Dodow is also used by Air France flight crew with whom we have formed a partnership. There are 50,000 flight attendants traveling around the world.
I am mostly stressed, can Dodow help me?
Yes, by breathing long enough at the Dodow rhythm (6 breaths per minute), you will stimulate the baroreflex, a small physiological mechanism that helps restore the balance of the autonomic nervous system. Thus, you will quickly move from the alert state (activation of the sympathetic nervous system) to the resting state (activation of the parasympathetic nervous system), the same state you are in during digestion: slightly drowsy. In this state, you will be much less sensitive to your stress, your metabolism will slow down, the secretion of neurotransmitters that kept you awake will have stopped, and sleep will be very close. Moreover, by focusing on the halo projected by Dodow on the ceiling, you will distract your thoughts. Some people try to "force" sleep: by trying to fall asleep at all costs, they create stress that prevents them from falling asleep. By keeping your eyes open to follow the light pulse, you no longer try to fall asleep and paradoxically, you increase your chances of finding sleep. In psychology, this is called paradoxical intention; scientific studies have shown its usefulness in treating sleep onset disorders.
Can Dodow help me fall back asleep if I wake up in the middle of the night?
Yes, by breathing long enough at the Dodow rhythm (6 breaths per minute), you will stimulate the baroreflex, a small physiological mechanism that helps restore the balance of the autonomic nervous system. Is Dodow suitable for children and elderly people?
Yes, we have many testimonials on this subject (we encourage you to browse them). The breathing exercise proposed by Dodow is very simple and is done progressively, gently. Dodow is particularly well suited for people who are afraid of the dark (many among children and elderly people). Dodow can be used from 6 years old.
How long would Dodow allow me to fall asleep?
Results may vary between individuals, but most people will fall asleep easily within the first 20 minutes, many even falling asleep before the end of the 8-minute cycle. Our users tell us they fall asleep 2.5 times faster (on average) thanks to Dodow. And don't forget, the more you use Dodow, the more you can expect good results, or even no longer need it.
What if Dodow doesn't work for me?
You have 100 days to test Dodow, if you are not satisfied, we will refund you.
Does the Dodow turn off by itself?
Yes, of course Dodow turns off by itself at the end of the exercise, 8 minutes or 20 minutes depending on your choice.
